When a company announces ‘buy back’, what does it mean?

Buy back means shares will be consumed back by company. That means number of shares in circulation will be less. It is like company investing in itself. As I said, these bought back shares will have same effect on all shareholders including promoters. No one gets the shares. But shares will be removed off from circulation.
